You can’t ask for a much better debut in soccer than scoring for your new club.
For 19 year old forward Anthony Martial, he’s done just that for Manchester United – at home and against arch-rivals Liverpool no less – in a 3-1 victory.
Martial is no ordinary teen soccer star. That’s because no teen has been sold for such a high price tag ($55 million from AS Monaco).
The young French forward has already drawn comparisons to legend Thierry Henry. United fans can only hope he’s half as good, but he’s looking it so far.
Watch him score the goal. He collects it wide, drifts in and puts his head down. He runs with pace, power and a tight dribble. He even breezes past Liverpool’s main defender Martin Skrtel as if he isn’t even there. Then he slots it past Simon Mignolet.
Cue the eruption at Old Trafford.
As a United fan, I have to tell you that I have not celebrated a goal as much since Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick against Manchester City. The fans of this club need something to cheer for recently and I think Martial is it.
We HAVE to be patient with him, but United may have just found a world class striker who isn’t even old enough to have a celebratory beer in the U.S.
