The other day, Chelsea and England legend Frank Lampard revealed the best 11 players he has ever played with or against. The midfielder, currently on loan at Manchester City, started his career in 1995 and has seen plenty of top class players, but he could only choose a starting 11.
Here is his list:
Goalkeeper: Petr Cech
Defense: Vincent Kompany, John Terry Branislav Ivanovic, Ashley Cole
Midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Gareth Bale
Forwards: Didier Drogba, Lionel Messi
It is impressive to me that Lampard saw that much out of Gareth Bale, even though his Chelsea sides did not come up against Bale year in and year out. Also, I think Lampard did well to recognize fellow midfield maestros Xavi and Iniesta.
The biggest lock for me before reading this list was Drogba, with Cech a close second. Even though Cech was the most dominating force around and Drogba was the sensational goal scorer on those Chelsea teams, Lampard’s great play week in and out should give him a spot with those other guys and Terry.
With the career Frank Lampard has had, I think he could give himself a spot as the 12th man and an occasional start in that out of this world lineup.
