New Post: My thoughts for a new Manchester United starting lineup

By, Kyle Gibson

After Manchester United’s transfer extravaganza on deadline day, many have tried their hand at what might be the best starting lineup for the club. Well, I wanted to throw my lineup into the discussion as well.

Without Freddy Adu, here we go!

Manchester United 4-4-2

                                                                      David DeGea (GK)

Rafael                      Phil Jones                              Marcos Rojo               Luke Shaw

                                                                                Daley Blind

Angel DiMaria                                                                                                             Juan Mata

                                                                              Wayne Rooney

                                                Robin Van Persie                         Radamel Falcao

To be honest, I am drooling at the thoughts of this lineup. I know some will tell me LVG prefers the 3-5-2,but he has already ditched it on a few occasions and maybe could again.

Also, I admit that I might have made a concession for Juan Mata here, but I really want him at the club. He and DiMaria, as well as RVP and Falcao, could switch spots. I also think Blind pushed just above the center backs would allow him to both defend and facilitate, which he did so well with Van Gaal at the World Cup.

This also maximizes the strike force. Wayne Rooney is fully able to be a midfielder and DiMaria and Mata can play in plenty of chances with their pace and skill.

The bench looks great now as well. Chris Smalling, Johnny Evans and Tyler Blackett will be good as subs, as will Ander Herrera, Adnan Januzaj and Antonio Valencia. Valencia could become awesome as a super sub.

Depth and quality is now a real option. This club now looks like the Manchester United I fell hopelessly in love with.

Listen to the latest Kicking It Podcast, in which I discuss this lineup in detail.
