I just wanted to share a few thoughts about Manchester United’s preseason friendly last night. Yes, I know it’s the preseason and I know the team played the Los Angeles Galaxy, but there are some things to be very excited about after the 7-0 win.
For one, Ander Herrera won praise all round. I was hoping to see plenty in his United debut and he delivered. Herrera is just as advertised. Cool on the ball, a good passer and a player who stays in his position. I hope he continues to impress.
Second, the formation. Louis Van Gaal brought out a look that featured about 5 defenders, with Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw playing up from the LVG is on record saying that he will more than likely run a 3-4-3 this season, which should be very exciting and make the most of the assembled talent.
Third, the youngsters! Reece James scored twice in his first team unofficial debut and young guys like Michael Keane and Tyler Blackett also appeared along with James Wilson. I love the fresh approach LVG seems to be taking to youth so far, which Man United is famous for and has gotten away from in previous years.
Things are still a long way from fixed, but last night gave me a bit more to be excited for as the Iron Tulip starts his reign.
