Manchester Musings: The 3 Dutch players Louis Van Gaal should ACTUALLY sign at Man United

By, Kyle Gibson

Manchester United’s transfer window has slowed down since the signings of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw. Since then, Patrice Evra has left and a deal for Thomas Vermaelen has cooled and a proposed deal for Mats Hummels quashed by his club, but both should hopefully still go through.

The only truly exciting news at United has been the incoming of new manager Louis “The Iron Tulip” Van Gaal. LVG’s arrival after a 3rd place World Cup finish with the national team has provided transfer rumors concerning almost every Netherlands player he coached. It’s getting kind of ridiculous.

I don’t think every Dutch player that is rumored fits the bill. Here are the 3 players that Van Gaal should consider signing from his former team.

Wesley Sneijder

This one is a sore subject for most long term United fans. After all, I think the team has been targeting Sneijder for 3 consecutive summers. However, I’m convinced that had he signed 3 summers ago, Sneijder would be well on his way to becoming a United legend. Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are good midfielders, but they don’t have the attacking punch that Sneijder does. I know his age might be a factor, but as he showed at the World Cup, Sneijder is in the best shape of his life.

Memphis Depay

One of the breakout players at the World Cup, Depay would fill a gap on the left side of the midfield. More than anything else, Manchester United needs midfielders. Nani, Ashley Young, Darren Fletcher and even Michael Carrick aren’t getting it done. Most of those guys have good service, but it’s time to upgrade. Depay is an explosive midfielder that could maybe even be bought for cheap.

Daley Blind

Manchester United also needs defenders. As mentioned above, there could be deals on the way for Vermaelen and Hummels, but it’s good to try for as many guys as possible. Blind could help to fill the attacking role left by Patrice Evra. As my friend Christian Cole says though, Ajax players don’t come cheap.
